Beyond the obvious....

Almost all my friends and colleagues agree with each other on this one - Dash is a nice guy.

Now what exactly does that mean ? I have heard nice guys finish last. I have not always finished last , but I am one of the best examples of Martina Navratilova s famous quote ' Nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with a lot of talent '.

That is very unlike me !! Yes, I never said anything nice about myself so far , except cracking some jokes about myself. So, if you are one of the members of the endangered species who reads my blog, you do deserve to know more of myself - I probably killed you by not opening up at all and bottling up my thoughts. So here it goes...

1. I am driven a lot by fear. It is an emotion that overwhelms me all the time. I fear change, I fear new people, new work, anything new. I fear hurting or displeasing others. I fear disagreeing with anyone. I have learnt to handle fear much better of late, but my fear for everything has stopped me from achieving many things that I could have.

2. I love singing more than my own life. I wish I was a singer. I wish I could compose music, play the keyboard. I am in love with Vani Jayaram s voice so much . Taking her out on a date and listening to her sing for me in a candle light is right at the top of my wish list.

3. I am a very simple person with very few wants. I can survive with just the bare minimum. I try to keep life simple and don t have big ambitions or expectations - from life or from others. So, everything is a pleasant surprise to me.

4. I have a reasonably good sense of humour. I enjoy the company of people who have a great sense of humour.

5. I can get boringly philosophical.

6. I am a terribly introverted person. I will never tell you anything unless you ask for it or unless i know you really well. You have to pull it out of me and i can assure you, for the first few days you will feel frustrated - then you will get used to it :).

7. People who are pushy, bossy piss me off. I would still be nice to them, but I don t care and I think the world will be better off without them.

8.Freedom of choice is very very precious to me. No one should be forced by people or circumstance to do anything that they do not want to do. I make a lot of effort to ensure I do not take this freedom away from anyone. The closer someone is, the more freedom I want to give them. Conversely, if someone forces their choice on me or if i notice them forcing their options on others, they are not likely to get my respect.

9. Like most guys, I am sensitive and emotional but generally do a very good job of wrapping them both beneath my smile..

10. I enjoy any attention [however little ] anyone gives me.

11.I follow cricket closely. I have a lot of respect for other games, but cricket will stay my favourite any day.

12. My writing skills are better than my oral skills [ i mean speaking !! ] and I hope to write a book some day, even if I am the only one who will buy it.

13. I have travelled a lot , but my dream destination is New Zealand and I shall visit NZ before I leave this world.

14. Life has been very very kind to me. No, it has not been a cakewalk - I have had plenty of problems and I have gone through grief that felt like hell, but I still feel I got more than what I deserve in life and life has been extraordinarily nice to me.

15. I am usually on time. There is only one thing that irritates me more than showing up late and that is inventing an excuse or blaming others for being late.

16. You can expect me to put up with mistakes more than anyone else. As humans, we make mistakes and learn from it, so I do not expect anyone to be perfect.

17. I enjoy driving, swimming, bowling, Chess, Tennis - All sports fascinate me.

18. I like and enjoy being a Man. A lot of things are easy for Men :). I admire 'masculine' men [ I m not gay, though ] - John Abraham, Tom Cruise, Hrithik Roshan, Surya, Imran Khan.... My list of heroes is long. I enjoy being with Men more than women, though all my male friends disagree with me on that :).

19. The world is definitely a more beautiful place with women. Their feminine grace and teasing ways bring an artistic dimension to this planet . I respect and admire women for their unique strengths and talents - specially multi tasking. However, I am not impressed by women who blame men for all their problems. To me, blaming men is the easy way out - it demonstrates a lack of courage to take responsibilty for your life.

20. I spend a lot of time alone. That is what makes me a good companion.

21. I am flexible to a fault. I often bend backwards to accomodate many requests. However, I can get very very stubborn and adamant sometimes and it may make you wonder whether some spirit has taken me over. If you relent, chances are I will come back to you and concede what you asked for.

22. I can say from my experience that life gives back what you give with interest. Kindness, compassion and helping others have all come back to me - I have given a lot and I think that is a big reason for life being so wonderfully kind to me.

23.I read a lot of non fiction. Every book i read advocates 'change' but that is what i dread in life. I suck in dealing with any change in my life.

24. I enjoy reading and tracking news.

25. I get phases of obsession - I get obsessed with something for sometime and then move on to another.

26. I never forget my friends - never. I can tell who lent me pencils and erasers thirty years ago, during my school days. I never give up on them. However, I wonder what to do when two of my friends come and complain to me about each other . I try to mediate, but do a lousy job.

27.I suck in dealing with people. Getting somethign done through others is something I dread, however small the task be.

28. I am friendly with everyone, but truly connect with very very few.

29. I am very inconsistent. I talk well one day and I become quiet on another day. I do well in some jobs, suck in many others. I am very friendly with some and very detached from others. I do not know why - It is just how i am.

30. Last, but not the least - I hope to make a difference in the life of at least a few less previleged children some day . I have big plans for that and if they come through, at least a few children who have no one to care for them will see their lives changed ( positively, of course) by me.

If you have read this far, I appreciate you taking the time and effort to know me better. Please, agree with them all, though :).

Just kidding - feel free to leave a comment about me :) - Anything u liked or u hated.

Sals, Thanks :). Yeah we do get along really well and that is because the expectations are minimal from each other and we just accept each other as we are .

Yes - I noticed we have a few things in common - the respect for freedom being the most fundamental one - not being able to say no, giving back to community are few others :)
